For over 20 years, Macanix is (was?) the support for designers, artists, home-users and creative small businesses.

From the first Apple ][+ (upgraded its memory to 64K, added BBS and OrangeMicro cards) to Macanix personal, current modified Intel-based 2012 MacMini (1TB Crucial SSD, 16GB RAM, mirrored HDD…) and 2016 Retina MacbookPro (OWC Aura SSD), and to newer M1-based devices, its been an interesting time. Even custom built Windows PC (6 core i7, Kraken-watercooled CPU, nVidia GPU, intelSSD PCI, NZXT Chassis, ASUSrock MLB, 32GB ram…)…being multi-OS supportive is beneficial.

Even storage has evolved: SCSI terminations, Bernoulli carts, SyQuest cartridges, Iomega Zip and Jaz, Fast and Wide SCSI, Firewire, USB, DVD-rom/ram, Bluray, Firewire400/800, eSata, PCIe, USB3.0, SSD, M.2, Thunderbolt 3 & 4, USB-C.. , storage solutions all have come and gone (or going). Connections such as HDMI, Displayport, MiniDisplay port, Thunderbolt 3 & 4, can carry audio and video at 4K resolutions or higher. There is even wireless video support (Airplay on the Mac).

Today, in these uncertain times, its not just computing. From estimating home office setup for “working from home” to remote support, technology, security, reliability and working with users has become far more intricate and complicated than a decade ago. Wireless is more prevalent with newer technology releasing every year (Wifi 6, 802.11ax.., whereas B/G are too insecure and slow, and soon N will follow suit, along with 4G and 5G cellular data). Home wireless is getting advanced with better routers, and mesh/directional access points to deal with non-standard floorplans. Note that Apple discontinued its line of Airport/Airport Express/TimeCapsule products in 2018.

Still, there are more users of Apple products than ever.
